Playing Custom Play Golf is fun but if you have a creative side then conjuring up your very own course design is hard to beat. You can quickly knock something up that gives you that warm feeling that you've just given birth to your very own baby - perhaps for the first time. Hopefully you'll want to increase the size of the family and learn the skills needed to create your masterpiece.
In the following pages I will show you how to get started and how to hone your creation skills. Note that I didn't say hone your design skills because artistic aptitude varies enormously from person to person. Therefore the bulk of these tutorials will concentrate on "how to build" and you can bring your own level of artistic expertise to enhance those building skills.
The create procedure uses three areas.
Surface layer
- where you layout everything in a top down view.
Height layer
- where you add elevations to holes or the complete plot.
Sky layer
- where you can adjust clouds, sun size and colour, sky colour, and many other things.
We'll begin with the surface layer and amongst other things this will introduce us to some very important concepts, namely...
Control points
- which are small black dots which you can grab and move with your mouse to change lots of shapes and areas of the land plot.
Using the right mouse button
to bring up dialogue boxes which the game labels "tools" but which I prefer to think of as "options" These options can be used in connection with a single hole or the complete plot or an object such as a tree or a texture area.
Rather than get bogged down in the detail of these options now I'll explore them in detail as the need arises in the following pages.
